Distribution:  Old World tropics (Panama, Guatemala).

Synonyms:

Size:   8-18 in. by 8-12 in.

Form:   Frost-tender bushy annual.

Bark:   

Stem/Bud:   Stems are reddish, erect, stiff, sturdy, branching and covered with fine hairs.

Leaves:   Leaves are opposite, entire, simple, medium green, sessile, lance- to oval-shaped and covered with fine hairs. Leaves are 3-4 in. long and 1-1.5 in. wide.

Fall Color:   

Flower:   Flowers are red, pink, orange or white and without petals. They are paper-like, on long pedicels and clustered in 1 in wide, heads, which resemble clover flowers or pompoms. Flowers are long-lasting and flower from June, July, August, September, to frost.

Fruit:   Fruit are utricles.

Uses:   Use as edging in beds or borders. Use for fresh or dried arrangements.

Problems:      

Culture:   Grow in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Water and fertilize frequently. Heat and drought tolerant.
