Form: Herbaceous rhizomatous perennial hybrid.
Bark:
Stem/Bud: Flowering stems are slender, wiry, leafless but sometimes with one or two leaves and clump-forming.
Leaves: Leaves are in low basal rosettes. Leaves are green with black-purple center splotches and black stripes, palmate, dentately serrated, long-petioled and have finger-like-lobes.
Fall Color:
Flower: Flowers are white, fragrant, small (1/4 in. wide), bell-shaped, 5-lobed, 5-sepaled, 5-petaled with claws and terminally clustered on 6-9 in. long, bottlebrush-like racemes; flowering April, May, to June.
Fruit: Fruit are paired, 1/4 in. long capsules with few seeds.
Uses: Use as groundcover or specimens in shady woodland, wildflower, perennial or rock gardens.
Problems:
Culture: Grow in part-shade to shade in moist, organic, well-drained soil.
