Distribution:  Over 600 species in tropical America.

Form:   Tropical evergreen epiphyte.


Stem/Bud:   Stems are short or long depending on species.

Leaves:   Leaves are laterally veined, leathery, firm and broad.

Flower:   Flowers are small, inconspicuous and densely clustered on a spadix surrounded by a flat, red spathe.

Fruit:   Fruit are berries.
