Distribution: Central China. Introduced in 1901.

Size: 20-30 ft. tall, with a spread of 15-25 ft.
Form: Deciduous tree. Upright, open, finely branched, with a rounded head.
Bark: Bark is exfoliating, a beautiful cinnamon to red-brown in color, outstanding.
Stem/Bud: Stems are slender, pubescent at first, developing the thin, papery, cinnamon-brown exfoliation on 2-3 year old stems. Buds pointed and imbricate, with 11-15 bud scales.
Leaves: Leaves are opposite, trifoliolate, 3-6 inches long, with the middle leaflet short stalked, coarsely toothed, with a pubescent petiole.
Fall Color: Fall color is russet, bronze, to red.
Flower: Flowers are greenish, borne in a cyme, few in number, not important.
Fruit: Fruit is a samara, not ornamentally important, rarely viable.
Uses: Patio tree, specimen.
