Unit 67 (067)
1. Iris
There are many horticultural groups of Iris, much like the tulip divisions.
A common Iris is the bearded Iris, with the lower petal having a fuzzy patch on it.
2. Allium or Flowering Onions
Flowering onions come in a wide range of sizes, with Allium giganteum and cultivars
like cv. Globemaster growing 3 to 4 ft. tall with large round flower clusters up to 10 in.
in diameter. The bulbs are also the size of a large orange or grapefruit.
3. Tulipa or Tulips
Tepals is a term used when petals and sepals are indistinguishable from each other.
Tulips and magnolias have tepals.
Tulips are arranged into 15 Divisions or horticultural groups. The Classified List and
International Register of Tulip Names is maintained in Holland. The Netherlands
International Flower Bulb center has an office in New York City.
The most interesting newer Division (8) is for Viridiflora Tulips. These flowers have
a green stripe on the outer tepals.
